Providing customers with high-quality coffee is a priority for us—in fact, it‘s the reason we were founded in 1971. But over the years, we’ve realized the importance of the journey from bean to cup—and the role we need to play in it. After all, the longevity of the coffee industry is directly linked to the social, economic and environmental conditions of coffee communities around the world.
In 2004, we formalized our commitment to sourcing all of our coffee in the most ethical way possible that is good for the planet, with C.A.F.E. (“Coffee and Farmer Equity”) Practices, a third-party-verified sustainability program created in partnership with Conservation International. The holistic model, put into action at Hacienda Alsacia, covers three main areas, People, Planet and Product, through initiatives including responsible purchasing practices; farmer support; economic, social and environmental standards for suppliers; industry collaboration; and community development programs.
