Mazagran

Mazagran was a risk.

It was cold, when people expected coffee beverages to be hot. It was effervescent. And it was the first time we reimagined our coffee in an unfamiliar form and tried to sell it outside our stores.

When it launched in 1994, people were polarized. Some loved it. Some hated it. Not many bought it more than once. The product was deemed a failure.

But Mazagran is still an important part of our history. This particular mistake also led to great things. The coffee extract our Research & Development guru developed for Mazagran found a new home in 1996, this time in a game-changing new product. And that new product was bottled by the Pepsi-Cola Company, which we already had a relationship with thanks to Mazagran.
