When Roz Brewer joined the Starbucks board of directors in February 2017, she brought decades of management experience with her – and a record of shattering glass ceilings.
With a work ethic inspired by her parents, Roz began her career as a scientist at Kimberly-Clark Corporation, rising through the ranks over 22 years. She joined Walmart in 2006 and eventually became the ceo of Sam’s Club, the first woman and African American ever to lead a Walmart division.
Roz became our chief operating officer in October 2017, again the first woman and African American to hold her position. During her more than three years (she went on to become CEO of Walgreens Boots Alliance), Roz helped guide the company through unprecedented times. “From addressing unconscious bias and systemic racism to navigating COVID-19, the work we’ve accomplished together makes a positive difference in people’s lives,” she said.
