We welcome people from all backgrounds and walks of life to become partners in our stores, with hiring initiatives aimed at military veterans, Opportunity Youth, refugees and more. But entering the workforce can sometimes feel like an impossible challenge for individuals with disabilities – so we came up with a way to help them succeed too. In 2015 we created the Starbucks Inclusion Academy, an on-the-job training program where people with cognitive and physical disabilities gain skills and experience in manufacturing and distribution.
When we saw the unique way partners with disabilities enhanced the work culture at our Carson Valley Roasting Plant and Distribution Center, we took things a step further: In 2017 we launched a new Retail Inclusion Academy designed to prepare individuals for the specific challenges of a retail job.
